2007 Turtle Nest on PK
Thanks to PKA member Robert W. Tyson
"Thought you might to see some amateur photos of a Loggerhead Turtle nest hatching that we took August
24 and 25, 2007, on PK beach. By later count by the park ranger, there were 115 eggs laid in the nest with 108 live turtles hatching, which according to volunteer "Ranger Mick," that visited the nest twice a day for three weeks before the hatch (28 day incubation period), was
phenomenally successful. Ranger Mick is the lady laying on the sand checking with a stethoscope for hatching sounds (eggs breaking) in the sand to determine the night they would hatch. The first night, August 24th, she heard the eggs cracking open in the nest under the sand but was a false alarm and she said it's going to be tomorrow night."
